Just compare prices:

e.g. for 80$ or 60 euro per month you can get...
linode: 2GB RAM machine
hetzner: 8GB RAM without setup costs or 24GB RAM for 150 euro setup costs

This is without even looking at storage, which is 1.5TB at Hetzner, or
CPU cores and speeds...

Cloud is nice for some things, but I usually go for Hetzner.

I tried quite a few cheap VPS providers but most of them are crap.  I
tried some more expensive ones as well, but VPS.net was even worse
than the cheap VPS providers and the only alternative besides linode
would be slicehost, but it's also more expensive than linode.  Or
Hetzner VPS, but I haven't tried that.
